ARE YOU AN AUTHOR READY TO REACH YOUR READERS?

Whether you want to self-publish or publish traditionally, your book needs to be the best it can be.

Having someone else edit something you have created with care and effort can be an emotional process. This is why I want to make this process comfortable and easy for you. Being a published writer myself, and an editor for over a decade, I have the experience and compassion to understand what my writers need from me.

As an author you want someone with skill and experience, knowledge and sensitivity, and an understanding of the world of publishing. With my experience of working on over 300 books in the capacity of an editor, proofreader, and designer, I can provide you with all of those things.

Some of my most rewarding collaborations have been with authors who have gone on to self-publish their own books.
Every project I have had the privilege of working on stemmed from great conversations and led me to meet incredible people. There is a story behind every text, every image. And telling it is a collaborative effort.

COPYEDITING

A book’s success is dependent on the narrative and how you tell it. After finalizing your book’s content and structure, the focus should be on language and readability, without compromising the integrity of your unique voice and style.

HOW I CAN HELP

I provide a combination of Copyediting and Line Editing, where I look at the manuscript closely, line by line, mainly from the perspective of:

  • language and grammar, while maintaining your authorial voice,

  • sentence structure, punctuation, and diction,

  • inconsistencies, continuity, and plot flaws, if any

  • ensuring that dialogues read naturally and flow well

  • substituting weak words and phrases for more powerful alternatives to make sure the language flows well,

  • non-grammatical errors such as incorrectly spaced words or missing punctuation,

  • typos and/or missing words

  • and any formatting errors.

Along with these, I provide suggestions for improving overall writing quality for an optimal reading experience.

WHAT YOU WILL GET FROM ME

  • Two passes of editing that follows the accepted industry standards of publishing (The Chicago Manual of Style and the dictionary of your preference)

  • A marked-up manuscript using Track Changes in Word

  • A clean version of the manuscript for you to see what the edits look like once implemented

  • A style sheet that is specific to your book and its usage and style choices

PROOFREADING

Once your manuscript has been through the rounds of editing, and before you are ready to publish, you need a final quality assurance check to ensure no errors have slipped through in the text and layout.

Traditionally, proofreading was done on paper, but now it is mostly online, either in Word or on PDF after the final layout is complete.

HOW I CAN HELP

  • I will review the final format of your manuscript and read it closely to ensure consistency and accuracy in grammar, spelling, word usage, and punctuation.

  • I will ensure the manuscript is free of typos and stray errors.

  • I will ensure consistency and precision in formatting, layout, and design elements.

Please note, proofreading does not involve overhauling the text or any changes to plot and structure of the narrative.

Sohini did an incredible job! She caught even the most minuscule mistakes and made suggestions to improve the flow of sentences as well. As an editor and proofreader myself, I came into this process with pretty high expectations, and Sohini exceeded them. Thanks for the great work!
